White is perhaps the rarest variety of tea. Just like green tea and black tea, white tea comes from
the same Camellia sinensis plant. For procuring white tea, the leaves have to
be picked up and harvested before they are fully open and the buds still have a
covering of white hair on them. Also, white tea undergoes the least processing
and is also not fermented, unlike other tea varieties. This amounts to it
having a light and sweet flavour and it also contains less caffeine and
more antioxidants than any other type of tea. As a matter of fact, white
tea actually contains the same type of antioxidants found in green tea, but in
even greater quantities. These antioxidants have been found to have many
health promoting properties such as helping to lower cholesterol, boosting
cardiovascular health, reducing the risk of cancer, supporting and aiding
weight loss. They are also very essential for improving skin and hair. With so
many benefits and an interesting yet mild flavour, it is important that we make
it a part of our diets. And why just have it in only the traditional way, when
you can create endless recipes and exciting new drinks with this simple tea.
Here is a simple peach iced tea recipe using silver buds Darjeeling white tea
